Suffolk County Battle of the Books is an inter-library program focusing on six (6) young adult novels and is for students entering 6th through 9th grade. The book titles are announced in the Spring, and students meet and practice over the Summer. On the day of the Battle, each team participates in four separate rounds. Each round covers two of the six books, and each team of six players is given twenty questions per round. The four top scoring teams go on to compete for the County Championship which is held on another date.

Advanced Division Battle of the Books competition is held during the school year for teens in 9th through 12th grades.  The titles of two (2) young adult novels are announced in October and practices are held during the fall and winter. Teams are limited to twelve (12) players and the competition follows the same rules as Battle of the Books.
