We have all learned how connecting with nature can be a great escape during challenging times. One way to engage more with nature is by noticing birds. Start with these guidebooks: Sibley Guide to Birds, Birds of New York: field guide, Seasonal Guide to Bird Finding on Long Island, and How to Know the Birds: the art & adventure of birding.
The National Audubon Society protects birds and the places they need. Their website provides valuable resources and activities. The Cornell Lab of Ornithology's Merlin Bird ID App is free and easy to use.
The Great Backyard Bird Count will be held February 12-15, 2021 around the world to help create a snapshot of the world's bird population. Participating is free, fun and easy to do, alone or with others, anywhere there are birds in as little as 15 minutes. Click HERE to find out how to participate.
The Library is an optimal location to observe birds, with the recent installation of donated bird feeders. You may even want to borrow binoculars from our Library of Things.
