Program Description

Event Details

The origins of Impressionism began 150 years ago with an 1874 exhibition, now considered the birth of modern painting.

Through January 19, 2025, The National Gallery of Art in Washington DC will host the only US venue for this remarkable presentation of 130 works including many of the paintings first featured in that now-legendary exhibition reunited for the first time since 1874. Paintings by Cezanne, Degas, Monet, Morisot, Pissarro, and Renoir will be featured along with their lesser-known contemporaries.

Professor Thomas Germano will present a visual lecture discussing the art norms they were rebelling against, and political and social shifts that influenced their new approach to art. Please register.
