1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

We invite you to participate in a program that encourages all Harborfields families to read 1,000 books with their young children before they enter Kindergarten.  Research shows that reading aloud with your children helps to strengthen their language skills and build their vocabulary – two important tools for beginning to learn to read when they enter Kindergarten.

Reading to your child is one of the most important ways to prepare them for school. Our 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program is open to District cardholders from birth until entering Kindergarten.

How do we start?

  1. Visit the Children’s Room to register your child and get a reading log to help you keep track of the books you read. This record will make a great keepsake for your child.
  2. Record any books read to your child, including those read by teachers, librarians, or siblings.
